The honest budget tier
Best value robot vacuums under $300, ranked on published specifications and what they cost to run for three years. Everyone in this category says they tested twenty machines. We have not tested any, and we say so.

What we would actually buy
The top pick from each ranking, with the price we last saw. Every one of these is in stock and under the ceiling it is ranked in - we check both against live retailer data rather than against our memory of what something used to cost.

Roborock Q10 S5+
The only machine under $300 that maps with LiDAR and sees obstacles with structured light. Everything else here is navigating half-blind.

Ecovacs DEEBOT N20 Plus
A self-emptying dock with no bag in it. Over three years that is the difference between this and everything else here, and it is not close.

Tapo RV20 Max
The same slim LiDAR machine as the Max Plus with the self-emptying base removed. You empty a bin; you never buy a bag.

iRobot Roomba 105 Vac
The lowest price at which you can buy genuine LiDAR mapping from a company that has been doing this for twenty years. It publishes no suction figure.

Lefant M210
A brushless suction port instead of a roller brush, which is why it handles hair better than machines twice its price. It has no map and never will.

Roborock Q7 M5+
10,000Pa, a self-emptying dock, and the only anti-tangle system here that treats the side brush as part of the problem.

The three prices that actually matter
Robot vacuum pricing between $90 and $300 looks continuous and is not. There are three points where the machine genuinely changes, and a lot of flat ground in between. Knowing which one your budget clears is most of what you need, because the rest is picking a color.
About $149 buys a map
Below this, machines bump into things and follow a fixed pattern until the battery dies, with no memory of the room. At about $149 a spinning laser builds a floor plan - so the machine cleans in rows, tracks what it has covered, resumes after charging, and accepts no-go zones you draw in an app.
See the under-$150 picksAbout $168 buys a dock
The onboard bins hold 300 to 550 ml, which a shedding pet fills in two or three runs. A self-emptying dock turns a twice-weekly chore into a bag change every couple of months. Nothing else in this range changes daily life as much, and two years ago it started at around $400.
See the self-emptying picksAbout $280 buys eyes
A laser turret scans at about three inches off the floor. It maps your walls perfectly and is blind to the charging cable lying in front of it. Structured light looks down and forward instead, which is the difference between a machine that finishes and one you rescue.
See how the sensors differBetween those three points, the extra money buys a larger number on the box and a longer-lasting dust bag. Both matter less than any of the cliffs. The full walk up the ladder is here, and if you are not yet convinced a robot vacuum is worth buying at all, that page is honest about the four homes where it is not.
Two things stay true at every price on this site, and they are the ones the marketing works hardest to obscure. Carpet has a ceiling - a battery-powered machine of a few pounds maintains low pile and cannot deep-clean anything thicker, and that is as true of a $1,200 robot as a $200 one. And most mopping is a damp cloth being dragged - only two machines under $300 use a mechanism that actually agitates a floor.
Why this site is different
We publish the arithmetic
Five scored metrics, published weights, and every source cited. You can recompute any number on this site and disagree with a specific step rather than with the conclusion.
Every price is dated
Prices render only from live retailer data with the date attached. When we have no live price, the button says 'Check price' - never a number we remembered.
Every ranking names a skip
One machine per list that we would not buy, and why. On the main ranking it is from the best-known brand in the category.
We say what we did not check
Every review carries an explicit list of the claims we could not verify. It is the scope of the review, not a disclaimer bolted onto the end.

How this site is funded
Cheapbot Co is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. If you buy through a link here we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you.
It does not change which machines we recommend. The ranking is computed from a published rubric before any link is attached, every list names a machine we would not buy, and one of the pages on this site recommends nothing at all because selling somebody a new vacuum while they are trying to fix the one they own would be a worse page for a slightly better commission.
